Good governance includes managing the portfolio in the way the policy statement says it will be managed. To be effective, policy must accurately reflect the committee’s biases and expectations around a variety of risk factors. Volatility, diversification, timeframe, transparency, inflation and liquidity are factors that impact the decisions committees make and exploring how the committee will assign importance to each of these factors is an essential ingredient to the long-term success of the strategy. Our discussion will explore the articulation of the governance framework and the connection of that framework to both return expectations and risk tolerance.
